Construction of the vessel, which was to be called Global Dream, was halted earlier this year after Dream Cruises collapsed along with sister brands Star Cruises and Crystal Cruises. A released exterior rendering of the Dream-turned-Disney ship does display some architectural changes from Global Dream. Most recently, the Disney Treasure aft was delivered Papenburg, Germany for installation, and Disney now has a ship’s log page tracking its progress toward completion. MV Werften administrator Christoph Morgen handed a symbolic key to the yard to Meyer Managing Director Bernard Meyer a week ago, paving the way for the continuation of work on the vessel.

GHK's total investment in this shipbuilding project is ~EUR 3,1 billion (~USD 3,44 billion). Designed to be 208,000 tons, Global Dream would be the world's seventh-biggest cruise ship if it debuted today. In this case, the superstructure is already complete, and interiors are ready to be installed. The unveiling of the ship's name arrives almost a year after Disney announced the acquisition of the partially completed newbuild -- which was originally intended for Dream Cruises and was set to be called Global Dream.

The U.S.-based cruise line plans to work with the Meyer Werft shipyard to complete the ship ahead of a 2025 debut. Disney Cruise Line will take over the ship’s construction with the popular Meyer Werft shipbuilding company based in Germany. The vessel construction will be adjusted to have the signature Disney look, along with features and experiences for which the cruise line is well-known. Construction will be completed at the former MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany, under the management of Meyer Werft, the Papenburg-based company that built the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish. The cruise line says they expect the passenger capacity to be reduced to approximately 6,000 from the maximum of 9,000 Dream Cruises had announced.

Before its financial demise, though, Global Dream made headlines as the cruise industry anticipated its arrival as the next largest cruise ship in the world -- at least by capacity.
